I've visited Canada times and think it's a great country. The characteristics that have made an impression on me and my family are that a lot of folk are very friendly and welcoming. In business I've found Canadians good folk to work with. But I acknowledge that these are superficial impressions and comments from a visitor.
I'd like to think Canadians have a commitment to long-term growth of family enterprises and to creating the types of legacy businesses that have, to some extent, shaped the national identities of parts of Europe.
I'd like there to be a place in the world where family controlled businesses want to locate because of the supportive culture as well as helpful fiscal and social policies.
A country where families send the next generation to be educated because there are a number of centres of excellence in family enterprise research and education.
Why not Canada?
