Dr.Worthington is Director of the Institute for Family Business at Baylor University which delivers research, teaching, and outreach to family owned enterprises within the state of Texas while promoting the tenets of firm, family, and faith on a global scale. His teaching responsibilities include a comprehensive introduction of top management team decision making to graduating seniors within the Hankamer School of Business; he also teaches an elective on Managing the Family Business which explores the complexities of small/privately held firm management. He also serves the North American Regional Council of the Successful Transgenerational Entrepreneurial Practices (STEP) research alliance associated with Babson College and serves on the Editorial Review Board for Family Business Review.

Prior to entering academia, Dr. Worthington earned a B.S. in Engineering from Texas A&M University then worked as an engineering project manager, consulting for Fortune 100 oil and gas firms. Later, he earned an MBA in Entrepreneurship from Penn State University while serving his family-owned business. Intrigued with the complexities of organizational governance, William pursued advanced studies, attaining a Ph.D. in Strategic Management from Texas A&M University and a minor in International Security from the George Bush School of Government and Public Service. His research centers on operational resilience sculpted from values embedded within the firm. His works have been published in academic and practitioner journals and presented at major annual conferences including the Academy of Management, Academy of International Business, Family Firm Institute, Family Enterprise Research Conference, Strategic Management Society, and the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

An avid Eagle Scout and Assistant Scoutmaster, William enjoys leading his own little troop of five children with his wife Sarah in China Spring, Texas.
